Theories of Personality

Hi everyone! Today I will be talking about some Personality theories by using the ARCS model which you can find information about below. First of all I would like to give the definition of personality. “The word personality itself stems from the Latin word persona, which refers to a theatrical mask worn by performers in order to either project different roles or disguise their identities. At its most basic, personality is the characteristic patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that make a person unique. It is believed that personality arises from within the individual and remains fairly consistent throughout life.” So, we can say that personality is unique to each individual, and there are some tips of personality according to the research made by psychologists.
As the first theory that I will mention in this study is Gordon Allport’s theories of personality. He divided them into three parts.

On the other hand, I believe that it is in our hand to decide and change our personalities. I mean, it's not an easy process, but if enough effort is put in, we can change features that we don't like in ourselves.

As the second theory I will talk about the Cattell’s point of view. “Cattell analyzed the T-data and Q-data using a mathematical technique called factor analysis to look at which types of behavior tended to be grouped together in the same people. He identified 16 personality traits / factors common to all people. Cattell made a distinction between source and surface traits.”

There is a personality test below which is made according to Carttell’s ideas. If you find it interesting you can check it.

Finally, I would like to share with you the link to the book that I find very beneficial in preparing this lesson.
